Welcome to MacCormac’s new blog series. If you have stumbled upon this post perhaps you are a current student, or someone who has ideas kicking around their head about the idea of going back to school. Are you doing some research on the matter? Great, you’re an exemplary student already. It’s time to put that mind to good use and get your career training going!

Tried and True

MacCormac has a lengthy legacy dating back to 1904 and a stellar status that spans to the present day. Our school is both historically significant and modern – adaptive to changing times. We seek to produce critical graduates who embody the ethos of true ‘global citizens’. Read on to learn about our history, and how that has informed our vibrant, supportive and business-ready reputation today.

Foundation, Legacy, Future

Founded in 1904, Dr. Mortan MacCormac had a vision to inspire lifelong leaning among students. A trailblazer from the get-go, MacCormac established the first court reporting program in the U.S in 1912. Similarly, our college established the first paralegal studies program in Illinois in 1973.

Recognizing a need for a second campus, in 1976 MacCormac opened a location in Berkeley, Illinois to serve the western suburbs. We relocated that campus to a more modern facility in Elmhurt, Illinois in 1983.

Importantly, MacCormac became accredited by the Higher Learning Commission in 1979. Accreditation ensures our school meets or exceeds high educational standards. It is also important for students because they can get student funding to attend an accredited institution if they qualify for aid. We were reaccredited for 10 more years in both 2005, and again in 2015.

In 2000 we moved our initial location from the Hyde Park community to the historic Heyworth building, located at 29 East Madison St. This strategic location is in the center of the business district, which also has many social and cultural offerings for students to explore. In 2004, we proudly celebrated 100 years of excellence.

Our alumni have gone on to work in judicial courts, law firms, large corporations, non-profits, and have become entrepreneurs. The sky is the limit for a MacCormac graduate!

Forward Thinking

Today MacCormac is recognized as a vibrant post-secondary institution. In addition to offering top-notch academics we are known for being a progressive, community-minded school. Our student body is diverse; hailing from different educational and ethnic backgrounds. Over 50% of our students are African American, Latino, Asian American, and Native American. Moreover, we have a reputation for supporting women, especially single-mothers, to help them attain their career goals.

As a private, non-profit school we are tuition controlled (as certified by tuition hero). Importantly, we are accredited with the higher learning commission. In addition to ensuring high educational standards, that means students can apply for Financial Aid (and possibly receive it if they qualify).

We offer academic support services that are geared towards academic success, personal wellbeing, and career guidance. We also assist with career placement. For example, internships may connect a student to potential employers. MacCormac also has transfer agreements with a number of local Universities, meaning you can acquire a two year associates degree and then go on to complete a bachelor degree if you chose to continue your education.

You may currently have a job, or a family to take care of. Our flexible day, evening and online classes mean you can modify your learning to work with your busy schedule. Our downtown location is also accessible as it is on major transit routes. Finally, small class sizes of 7-15 people mean you are assured to get one-on-one time with professors, to deepen your learning experience.
